The Fun Run was a huge success! The PTA held the FUN RUN on September 28th and the weather turned out to be in our favor!
We made $18,092 total and after approximately $3,500 in expenses, the ARNO families will net over $14,000! This was all made possible by the countless parent volunteers, generous donations, The Get Movin Crew team, and the ARNO teachers and staff for making the event an enormous success!
The kids enjoyed a popsicle the day of the event and all kids that donated they will receive a Zoo Themed Stuffed animal and zoo stickers. Random students will be chosen for an additional prize as well.
The top student winner is Nina Hegedus and she will have the opportunity to be the principal for a day, on November 1!
The top grade winners will be going out to lunch with Mr. Zielinski in a limousine to celebrate their success on October 22! The top class was Mrs. Martinchick’s 1st Grade class. They earned over $2,400 and they will enjoy a pizza party on October 18!

Therapy Dogs arrive for Arno literacy program
The main objective of this program in our Y5 and 3rd grade classroom is to provide a relaxed and “dog-friendly” atmosphere, which allows students to practice the skill of reading.
By sitting down next to a dog and reading to the dog, all threats of being judged are put aside. The child relaxes, pats the attentive dog, and focuses on the reading. Reading improves because the child is practicing the skill of reading, building self-esteem, and associating reading with something pleasant.

Arno Cougar Super Summer Readers
Our Book Swap at Arno was a huge success with so many of our readers visiting the building throughout the summer. Many of our students returned their reading log in addition and we were able to pass out lots of rewards. One of the rewards was for our Top Readers- They received a 30 minute recess with the principal and a cool popsicle this past week. They are all pictured below
Pop Can Tabs
Madeline Every has been collecting pop can tabs at our schools to benefit the Ronald McDonald House in Detroit for a number of years now and she continues this very important effort. There will be a collection box in the office where you can drop off pop can tabs off to support her favorite charity.
Time to roll out the costumes…

VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECKS
In order to protect the safety of all of our students, any family member who plans to regularly volunteer in the classroom, or chaperone a field trip must complete the background check information below. This paperwork is also available in our Arno office. Unless you are planning to begin as a regular volunteer, or chaperone a field trip within the next month, please refrain from completing this paperwork in advance. It is most effective if the requests are processed within a few weeks of the intended volunteer experience. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!
