Thank You!

On behalf of Arno staff, we wanted to thank all of our caring families for coming out to conferences this past week.  We know that research puts a heavy weight on the importance of parental involvement in school, and that’s why a strong parent/teacher connection is so important.  It was great to see so many of our families come out and enjoy time learning about all the wonderful accomplishments your child  is currently working on.  As we move forward, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher should you ever have a question or concern.  Thanks for being a great partner!

From the PTA

“It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!”
December is upon us and the Holiday Season is in full swing! We hope that everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving break celebrating with family and friends.
Just a few reminders:
Our December Meeting is, Thursday, December 8th from 6:30-7:30 pm, in the Arno Cafeteria. We will vote on Founders Day Nominations and give important information about our upcoming events in December and January (no meeting will be held in January). There will also be a midway budget breakdown analysis which will give us an excellent view of where our organization stands financially at this point in our school year.
Speaking of Founders Day….Nominations are due TODAY! Please drop them off in the main office in a SEALED ENVELOPE or to the PTA President! These are the only two ways your Nominations can be submitted.
Today is also the last day to submit your Spirit Wear order forms! Make sure to get them turned in for your Christmas Shopping convenience!
Our Reflections Celebration was held this week with lunch with the Principal! Thank you so much to our chairs, Heaven and Cathy! They did a wonderful job and we just appreciate all their hard work! Congratulations to the students! Their stories were told and are hopefully proud of the entries!
ARGH! We hope all you enjoyed our Book Fair! Books are some of our greatest treasures! The success of this event was made possible by our Awesome Chair, Nicole, and all the wonderful volunteers who came and donated their time to make your experiences positive. We could not have done it without them and their families! Thank You, Mateys!!!Have a Great Weekend and do not forget to check facebook for updates!

What a wonderful celebration lunch we had this past Monday with all of our Reflection contest entries.  Our very own Arno PTA provided yummy pizza and cookies, while each student was able to share their piece and some background on how they created it.  Congratulations goes out again to Ben Klos, Katie Klos, Gerry Klos,

Charlotte Tracz, Morgan Kraft, Madeline Every, Kaylee Daniels, Marshall Hegedus, and Sophia Maldonado.  Their pieces will be reviewed for state entry and will also be on display in the main hallway during conferences.

DRESSING FOR THE WEATHER

Brr!  The weather has turned chilly!  Although our afternoons are often warmer than mornings, please send your child to school with a warm coat daily.  We definitely want to take advantage of the sunny fall weather to play on our playground and with our fun new equipment, but need to be dressed appropriately!  It’s always a good idea to dress in layers to adapt to changing temperatures.  Please label your child’s jackets and sweaters so they can find their way back to their owners if left somewhere.  The Lost & Found is currently full of items needing to be claimed!

ART OF GIVING PROJECT

Art Drop Boxes will be available in our office for collection of this project:
The ART OF GIVING is a project that is very near and dear to my heart, just as ART is at the HEART of Blake. Although this project is very personal, with all of us working together, it has the potential to impact and uplift so many others.  I began the Art of Giving when my boys were small. The Bowman boys, like many chronically ill children, spent countless hours in the hospital. They tire of the many, often painful, procedures; however, these procedures are their means of survival. Art therapy is a very vital part of these children’s care. It creates a positive direction, allows them to express their emotions about their health, and is a different approach to cope through ART.  I have had the rare opportunity to see first hand how amazing art therapy is for these children; please consider joining us during our Art of Giving event, the reward is priceless. ~ Kim Bowman

Conferences

Parent/Teacher conferences this fall will be taking place on Nov. 30 (5:00-7:30) and Dec. 1 (12:45-7:30), Dec. 1 is also a half-day- 11:40 dismissal.  This year for conference sign-up, we have once again chosen to use a web based tool called signup genius.  Many of you may be familiar with it as a number of Arno staff and the PTA have used it in the past for various events.  Using this tool allows you to have the ability to choose times that are best for you while looking over the slots available, as well easily scheduling siblings.

Each teacher at Arno has their own signup genius link to click and choose times.  All links are the blog just below, and you will get the same link from your teacher as well next week.  Simply choose the teacher and click an available slot, then go and repeat for siblings in other classrooms.  We will have a computer available in the office if you are not able to access the program.  There will not be any paper sign up this year

Remember:

  • To be on time
  • If you have more than one child, please don’t schedule back to back as you will need travel time to move around the building

Please select your child’s classroom teacher(s) below to sign up for a conference time.  For the fall, we encourage all parents to attend conferences.

Now Collecting…

Arno has a number of items that we collect to benefit the school and other organizations.   Please see below for more information.

Pop Tabs– Maddy Every (4th grader) collects pop tabs for a very worthy cause- The Ronald McDonald House.  Please consider collecting and sending in your pop tabs to help- Great job Maddy!

Box Tops –  Box Tops are found on hundreds of products.  Please clip the dotted line and have your child turn them into the office.  When they are submitted, the school earns 10 cents for each one received.  Over the past few years, Arno has been averaging approximately $1000 per calendar year.  This money is used to purchase merchandise and help to pay for special events that benefit the entire school.

Labels for Education- Campbell labels are found on many different products,  usually soup labels.  On those slips it will say either 1 point or 5 points.  Please cut the area out with the UPC code as well as the point value.  When they are submitted, we have the opportunity to obtain merchandise from a catalog that can be used in our school.

Traffic Pattern

Parking/Drop-off

As we all need to get our children to school, safety is always the primary concern.    We will do our best to help ensure an orderly drop-off/pick-up daily, but we need your help in making that happen.

** No child should run across the street to get into a car.

**School traffic flow MUST go clockwise around the school. Make sure that your passenger door is ALWAYS closest to the curb.

BE SMART! BE PATIENT! BE CARING! BE KIND!!! BE RESPONSIBLE!!

Voice Volunteers

Arno is still in need of Voice Volunteers to work with students throughout the building.  I have attached the page below that would need to be filled out and sent in to the office.  The info sheet does have to run through the state iChat site for a background check.  After receiving approval from the district, you would be scheduled to come in and work with kids  We appreciate all of the support we receive at Arno!!

HERE YEE! HERE YEE!!!

The elections are approaching fast just like our weekend! Please remember to get out and VOTE!!

Speaking of voting….I vote that we have more cool assemblies like the Rory the Lion Leadership Assembly we had on Thursday, November 3rd! A BIG “Thank You” with much Love from all of us at Arno to Mrs. Warneck for setting that up for us!
Voting will also be taking place for our annual “Founders Day” nominations starting next week. Founders Day is a way for us, as a community and as a school, to show others how much we appreciate and respect all the hard work someone has done “Above and Beyond” in various categories. Some of these categories include: Outstanding Educator, Business, PTA Member, etc. Applications will be available by link on Arno’s PTA Facebook page and an email link to members on Monday, November 7th. Paper Copies of all applications will be available in the main office Tuesday, November 8th. You can submit your completed application by email or turn into the office in a sealed envelope marked “Founders Day PTA”. Voting will take place at our next PTA Meeting which is scheduled for Thursday, December 8th at 6:30 pm in the Arno Cafeteria. Members present at that meeting will have the opportunity to vote on all the nominee’s. The winners of each of the categories will be notified and acknowledged at the Founders Day District Banquet being held on February 22nd at 6:30 pm at Crystal Park Banquet Center. It’s important as a community to show those who do take the time to go above and beyond how much we appreciate them and all the things they do. We can be quick to judge and leave bad reviews, but oftentimes we do not always show our gratitude, so please consider setting time aside to submit a nominee.
Our Reflections campaign is coming to an end soon. Set some time aside to show us what your story is and get your submissions in by, Friday, November 11th.

Mother/Son Night out is approaching! Flyers were put into teachers mailboxes today and should be coming home with your student(s). Please get your RSVP’s in soon. We have had a tremendous amount of support from the community and we hope you can join us for this fun event!

Save the date for our first Book Fair of the school year! Monday, November 28- Friday, December 2nd our Media Center will be transformed into a Buccaneer Book Blast! Look for more details to come in the following weeks, as well as, a sign up genius to volunteer and earn free scholastic dollars while doing it.
Thank you to everyone for all your support. Have a Great Weekend and we look forward to seeing you at a meeting soon!
Remember to check our Facebook page, emails, and the school blog for information.

Introducing our Principal of the Day

Marshall Hegedus enjoyed a day of being in the top spot at Arno in his role as Principal for a Day (Top Fundraisers).   He got to experience first hand all of the work that goes into running a school and how fun it can be to get to experience all of the kids at Arno.  Great job Marshall, I couldn’t have done it without you!  Mr. Zielinski

In a couple of weeks, we will be posting all of the links in the blog, and you will get a link from your teacher as well.

Student Dismissal

As of Monday, October 17th, all students must exit their designated class door. This is in an effort to keep the hallways clear during dismissal time. Cougar Tracks Club will be starting soon and they meet in the hallway. This club can have up to 100 members. In turn, students with siblings must exit with their class out their designated door. Please make arrangements with your child as to whether they are going to walk outside to their sibling’s door or have a designated meeting spot.  Thank you so much in advance for your cooperation in this matter. This will hopefully alleviate hallway congestion.

21st Century Learning at Arno…

When walking into room 122, you’ll notice that the classroom looks different. This third grade learning space doesn’t have traditional desks or tables for 26 students.

Instead, Mrs. Warneck’s classroom has a variety of seating options.

There are stools, yoga balls, wobble cushions, video game chairs, regular chairs, yoga mats, standing tables, a standing desk, a sitting desk, ottomans, bean bags, beach chairs, small tables, clipboards, and a new carpet space, which the classroom recently won from Jabro Carpet One in a voting contest.  This furniture arrangement is called Flexible Seating and — in addition to the students viewing it as fun—research says Flexible Seating has positive impacts on student learning.

Here are some examples:

  • helps students attention spans which results in higher achievement

  • makes students more actively engaged in the classroom

  • gives them an active outlet without disrupting their learning

  • makes them more physically fit

  • motivates students to want to come to school

  • helps those with ADHD and Autism, along with other special needs

  • helps develop a sense of community among the students which improves their social skills

  • helps them to become independent learners

What exciting news Arno received this past Monday.  Our first grade teacher, Mrs. Dawn Watson received a “Teacher of the Week” Award from WNIC after being nominated by a parent.  After finding out she won, Mrs. Watson had this to say  “I am honored that one of my students nominated me for the WNIC Teacher of the Week.  It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with the students at Arno. We get to learn, love and laugh together everyday!  I get to see their faces light up and their big smiles when they’re successful. I get to help them when they struggle, pick them up when they fall, hug them when they’re not well and guide them through learning challenges. I am a lucky teacher indeed!  In addition to working with my wonderful 1st grade classroom family I have THE BEST 1st grade teaching team and colleagues in the field. It is an honor to receive recognition for doing the work that I love and I look forward to celebrating with my colleagues and classroom family when WNIC comes to visit us on Thursday morning.”  Congratulations Mrs. Watson from the whole Arno family!!

The Fun Run is one week away! We are hopeful more students will hit their goal in order to achieve our overall school goal. Please remind your families to donate this weekend! Donations are accepted online or by sending cash/checks into the school office clearly labeled “Fun Run” with your students name and teacher so they can get credit. Remember every student who collects a pledge will get a prize!

As of now team Martinchick is in the lead with Watson & Amonette as the closest classrooms chasing after them! We are humbly greatful for the generosity of the donations submitted so far!

Gum Ball membership challenge update! Martinchick leads with 12, Haskin & Kalis tied with 11. We’re having so much fun watching the gumball machines fill up! Keep gathering memberships to help your students class!

A big thank you to the families that came out for our first ever mad science night! We hope you were carried away with the fun, silly, and educational experiments Atomic Angie displayed for our students.

Congratulations to Mrs. Watson for winning Teacher of the Week from WNIC! We’re so proud of her for all that she does for our students and families!

We look forward to seeing many of you again at the PTA meeting this Thursday, October 6th at 6:30! Free childcare is provided.

Pop Can Tab Collection

The office will be once again collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald house in Detroit sponsored by one of our Cougars.  We  have a box in the office where you can drop them off throughout the year.
The pop tabs are cashed in by the Home and the money is used to buy any needed supplies to help families have a home away from home while their child or sibling is in Children’s Hospital.
