MDE State Visit
Last week Deputy Superintendent Sheila Alles visited APHS and Arno Elementary. Ms. Alles was in AP from the invitation of our new superintendent, Mike Darga. We had a great tour of the building and various classrooms, observing everything from literacy to science, and technology. Our staff was able to show her many of the current best practices that Arno to help each and every child learn.
It’s Conference time again…
On Feb. 7th and 8th, Arno will host parent/teacher conferences in the evening from 5:00-7:30 each day. We will once again be using signupgenius for all available slots to be filled.
The spring/winter conferences are meant for those who either received a teacher request for conference OR for parents who still wish to meet with the teacher. If you feel comfortable with your child’s progress, and you did not receive a teacher request- then you may choose to not attend this round.
For those parents who have a teacher request OR if you would like to request a conference for your child- Please click on the above tab marked “Pages” and look for the Conference Sign Up page that has all teacher links to sign up for a time slot or see below.

PBIS at conferences- we need help…
Dear Families,
The PBIS Committee will be selling hearts, smencils, and car clings during our upcoming conferences. We are in need of a few parents to run our table for us. If you are interested and available, please sign-up. The PBIS table will be outside of the office near the gym. Thank you for your consideration.

The shout-out hearts can be purchased for $1. We will be decorating the entrance hallway with love to our students from their families. Purchase your student(s) a heart and greet them with love every morning! These hearts combined with the sale of Smencils ($1), Smens ($2), and car clings ($5) help fund the fantastic incentives and rewards that our Caring Cougars earn through their positive behaviors!
Parent Surveys
It’s that time of year already in our school improvement planning where we need to send out surveys to our Arno stakeholders. You will have the opportunity to take a brief survey from the State of Michigan rating some of your experiences here at Arno. The survey will be available Jan 29 to Feb. 9. We will be providing the link to it via email blast on that day, as well as posting it in the blog below. If you are unable to access via computer, we will also have a computer set up in the office if you wish to take it there. Giving us good feedback helps us plan better to meet the needs of every Cougar stakeholder. In addition, students and staff also take a similar survey during the school day.
All of the feedback you provide is then summarized and becomes part of our school improvement plan for the 2018-19 school year. Thank you very much, please click on the link to start the survey:

STAYING HEALTHY
Winter time brings some additional challenges to school aside from the cold and snowy weather. Below are a few reminders for helping our students to stay safe and healthy at school:
- Wash hands frequently — especially after using the restroom, coughing, or sneezing.
- Cover your cough — cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue.
- Encourage children to put hats and gloves into coat sleeves when hanging among others’ items.
Below is some information about head lice, shared from our Wayne RESA Nurse Consultant, Terri Czerwinski.
